* 2004년 9월 1일부터 시행되는 미국 SEVIS FEE에 관한 안내문입니다. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- SEVIS FEE PAYMENTS FOR NEW AND RETURNING INTENSIVE ENGLISH PROGRAM STUDENTS What is the SEVIS fee? This SEVIS fee is required of all international students who come to the United States to attend colleges, universities, and language training programs. It is paid one time for each single educational program in which an F-1 or F-3 student participates. This fee is new and goes into effect September 1, 2004. SEVIS fee payments will be used by the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to fund the Student and Exchange Visitor Program. This program makes it possible for international students and exchange visitors to attend schools in the United States. Who must pay the SEVIS fee and when? You will need to pay the SEVIS fee if you were issued a Form I-20 on or after September 1, 2004 AND one of the following conditions applies: 1) You are seeking an F-1 or F-3 visa from a United States embassy or consulate for first-time attendance in a language training program. In this case, the SEVIS fee must be paid BEFORE visa issuance. 2) You hold a valid F-1 or F-3 visa, have been absent from the United States for a period of more than 5 months (not working on your studies during this time with the prior approval of your school), and will re-enter the U.S. for a new program of study. In this case, the SEVIS fee must be paid BEFORE re-entry to the U.S. The accompanying spouse and dependents of the F-1 visa holder are not required to pay the SEVIS fee. How much is the SEVIS fee and how do I pay it? The SEVIS fee is US$ 100. This fee is separate from and in addition to the visa application fee. The SEVIS fee must be paid by the Internet or by mail. It cannot be paid at a U.S. embassy or consulate and it cannot be paid at port-of-entry. The fee can be paid by one of two means: 1)Electronically, by completing a form I-901 through the Internet at www.FMJfee.com and using a Visa, MasterCard, or American Express credit card. 2) By mail, by submitting Form I-901, Fee remittance for Certain F, J, and M Nonimmigrants, together with a check or money order drawn on a U.S. bank and payable in U.S. currency. Sources for such checks and money orders include banks chartered or operated in the U.S., foreign subsidiaries of U.S. banks, or foreign banks that have an arrangement with a U.S. bank to issue a check, money order, or foreign draft that is drawn on a U.S. bank. A third party such as a friend or family member, can pay the fee on your behalf through the same means described above. A Note About Processing Times and Payment Verification If you pay the SEVIS fee by Internet, your payment is processed immediately and, at the time you make payment, you can print a receipt directly from your computer. This computer-generated receipt can be used to verify you have paid the fee. Mailing the SEVIS fee does not mean you have paid it. The fee is processed when it is received by DHS. If you mail your payment rather than pay on the Internet, it can take a long time DHS to receive the payment and for you to receive a receipt by return mail. Whether you choose to pay the fee by the Internet or by mail, a paper receipt called a Form I-797 will be mailed to the address you provide on Form I-901. You may choose to have this receipt sent to you either by regular mail or, at an additional charge, by express delivery. Do I have to present a fee receipt at my consular interview? A paper receipt is recommended, but not required, in order for you to be issued a visa. Embassies and consular posts will be able to verify your fee payment without a receipt in most circumstances if you pay the fee far enough in advance of your visa interview. Electronic payments must be submitted at least 3 business days before the interview if you will rely on electronic fee verification at the consulate. Mailed payments must be sent in a way that is sure to arrive at the DHS address listed on the I-901 at least 3 business days before the scheduled interview. If I have already paid the SEVIS fee for one school, and then decide to attend another, do I have to pay the fee again? If you have been accepted to more than one institution and paid the fee using the SEVIS ID number of an institution you will not be attending, you will not have to pay the fee again. If you are applying for a new visa, bring the I-20s of both the school for which you paid the fee and the school you will be attending to the consulate for your interview. Is the SEVIS fee refundable if I am denied a visa or decide not to study? Once paid, the SEVIS fee is non-refundable, unless paid by mistake, even if your visa is denied or, after the visa is issued, you choose not to come to the United States. If you applied for an F-1 or F-3 visa and paid the SEVIS fee within the last year but were denied a visa, you do not have to pay the SEVIS fee again as long as you re-apply for the same kind of program with 12 months of the initial denial. SEVIS fee는 컬리지, 대학교, 그리고 언어연수 프로그램에 참여(출석)하기 위해 미국을 방문하는 모든 국제 학생들에게 요구되는 것입니다. F-1 또는 F-3 소지 학생들이 등록하는 각 각의 교육프로그램마다 한 번씩 지불합니다. 이 비용은 새로 시행되는 것이며, 2004년 9월 1일부터 효력을 발생합니다. F-1 비자 소유자와 함께 동반하는 배우자나 자녀들은 SEVIS fee 를 지불하지 않아도 됩니다. SEVIS fee는 얼마이고 어떻게 지불합니까? SEVIS fee는 미화 100달러입니다. 이 비용은 비자 신청비에 추가되는 별도의 비용입니다. DHS에서 받아 본 후에야 지불이 이루어집니다. 인터넷이 아닌 우편으로 지불할 경우, DHS에서 fee를 받아, 다시 귀하가 영수증을 우편으로 받을 때까지의 시간이 오래 걸릴 수 있습니다. 인터넷 또는 우편 어느 것을 선택하던지, I-797이라고 하는 종이 영수증은 귀하가 I-901에 기입하신 주소지로 우편 송부될 것입니다. 이 영수증을 받기 위해 보통 우편이나 추가요금으로 빠른 우편을 선택하실 수 있습니다. 인터뷰 시 영수증을 제시해야 합니까? 종이 영수증을 보여 주시면 좋지만, 귀하의 비자 발급을 위해 반드시 필요한 사항은 아닙니다. 만약 귀하가 비자 인터뷰에 충분한 시간을 두고 납부를 하셨다면 대부분의 경우 영수증이 없이도 대사관이나 영사관 게시물을 통해 귀하의 fee가 지불되었다는 것을 증명할 수 있습니다. 영사관에서의 인터넷 납부 증명을 원하신다면, 인터넷을 통한 지불은 적어도 인터뷰 3일 전에 이루어져야 합니다. 우편 납부는 적어도 인터뷰 일 3일 전에 I-901에 명시된 DHS의 주소지로 확실히 도착할 수 있는 방법으로 보내셔야 합니다. 만약 한 개의 학교에 대한 SEVIS fee를 이미 지불하였으나, 다른 학교를 다니기로 결정했을 경우, 다시 또 fee를 납부해야 합니까? 만약, 귀하가 한 개 이상의 학교로부터 입학 허가를 받고, 다니지 않을 학교의 SEVIS ID 번호를 사용하여 SEVIS fee 를 납부하셨다면, 다시 납부하지 않아도 됩니다. 만약 귀하가 다른 종류의 비자를 신청 중에 있다면, 인터뷰 시 이미 SEVIS fee 를 납부한 학교의 I-20와 앞으로 다닐 예정인 학교의 I-20 모두 가져오시기 바랍니다. 만약 비자가 거절되거나, 공부를 하지 않기로 결정했다면 SEVIS fee 를 환불받을 수 있습니까? 한 번 납부한 SEVIS fee는, 실수로 납부된 경우가 아니라면, 귀하의 비자가 거절되거나 비자 발급 후 미국에 가지 않기로 하였다 할 지라도 환불되지 않습니다. 만약 귀하가 F-1 또는 F-3 비자를 신청하였고, SEVIS fee를 1년 이내에 납부하였으나 비자가 거절되었을 경우, 최초 12개월 거절을 받은 것과 같은 프로그램을 다시 신청하는 것이라면 SEVIS fee를 다시 납부하지 않아도 됩니다. 더욱 자세한 정보를 원하시면 가까운 미국 대사관 또는 영사관이나 아래의 DHS 웹 사이트를 방문하시기 바랍니다. http://www.ice.gov/graphics/news/newsreleases/articles/SEVISFactSheet.htm >>Full Story
